Hi, I'm Kamara
I envision a world where balance and stability are attainable, even in the midst of life’s chaos. I believe that no one should feel alone in their struggles, and I’m committed to helping youth and families recognize that their present challenges don’t define their future.
I promise to walk with you in humility, authenticity, kindness, and empathy on your life journey. As an imperfect Jesus-follower, I do not claim to have all the answers, nor will I impose my personal beliefs on you. Wherever you hope to see change in your life, you can expect to be nurtured, challenged, and assured that you are in a safe space when working with me.
All I ask is that you trust the process, even when it is slow and hard. Together, we can find a renewed balance that helps you keep moving forward.

Inclusivity Statement
My hope is that when you work with me, you know these things to be true:
All people deserve a safe environment where they feel nurtured and encouraged.
All people deserve to be respected, regardless of religion, race, age, or gender.
All people deserve to be seen, valued, and cared for in all seasons of life.
You are enough—just as you are in this very moment—and I am glad you’re here.

A LITTLE ABOUT ME
Kamara McMichael
MS, LMFT, CMHS
Hi there, my name is Kamara, and welcome to Renewed Balance Counseling! In therapy, the therapist learns quite a bit about the client and all that makes them uniquely themselves. As a client, it can be both reassuring to know someone is there to be fully present and, at the same time, feel like it’s somewhat of a mystery who the therapist is. In the therapeutic relationship, it can be helpful to know a bit about the person you’re working with, and I’d love to share what makes me uniquely Kamara.
I have a passion for working with children and families because I was once a child who had to learn what kind of relationship I wanted to have with my parents. It took several years of learning communication tools, understanding how to be in tune with my own emotions, and trusting the process—because it was not an easy one. I love working with children aged 10 and older because it was around that age that I began to realize my sense of self and worldview were starting to unfold in new ways.
My own lived experiences have kept me determined to learn and grow in the mental health field.
-
I have a Masters of Science in Couples and Family therapy In 2018.
-
I've worked in schools, office settings, homes and community.
-
I have been both a clinician and a clinical supervisor in the Wraparound with Intensive Services (WISe) program for 5 years.
-
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Child Mental Health Specialist.
Mental health is incredibly important to me because I cannot pour into others from an empty cup. Therefore, I care for my mental health by taking care of all that makes me, me. My physical health is nurtured by being outdoors and moving my body in ways that bring me joy. My emotional and spiritual health are supported through worship and journaling. When words are hard to come by, I snuggle my dog or escape into fantastical worlds in wonderful stories. Mental health can be renewed in many ways, and finding those strategies can bring peace and hope.
Now that you’ve learned a bit about me, I hope to learn more about you and help you find a renewed balance in your own life.
